Early Life and Background
Goyal keeps a low profile, and very little about his early years has been published. His date of birth has not been reliably reported, so this page does not give an age. What is on record comes mostly from interviews he and his wife have given together. In a 2015 conversation with the Deccan Chronicle, Deepika said the two first bonded after she discovered that he, like her, was from Delhi.
Career
Diya Aur Baati Hum (2011–2014)
Goyal’s best-known work is Diya Aur Baati Hum, the Shashi Sumeet Productions drama that ran on StarPlus between 29 August 2011 and 10 September 2016 and stretched to 1,487 episodes. Wikipedia lists him among the show’s directors alongside Sumeet Hukamchand Mittal. Deepika Singh, then a newcomer, played the lead role of Sandhya Rathi.
His work on the serial was recognised at the Indian Television Academy Awards in 2013, where he took the trophy for Best Director (Drama). He worked on the show from its launch, and in July 2014 the Hindustan Times reported that he had stepped away. Goyal told the paper he was leaving to direct a new series for the same producers.
Directing a daily soap is demanding work. In the Deccan Chronicle interview Goyal said he put in 13-14 hours a day, and called it an advantage that his wife, being from the same industry, understood those hours. Deepika recalled that he once fell ill with typhoid but refused to be admitted to hospital, because the show had no bank of episodes to fall back on.
Later television work
Speaking to the same newspaper in 2015, Deepika described Tere Sheher Mein as “his show” and said she told him frankly when she disliked a scene. Goyal went on to direct more daily dramas. He is credited, with Abinaash Sharrma, as director of Jiji Maa, a Jay Productions serial that was on Star Bharat between 9 October 2017 and 18 February 2019 and ran to 418 episodes, according to Wikipedia. He also appears in the directors’ list of Zee TV’s Ishq Subhan Allah, the Eisha Singh and Adnan Khan drama that ran from March 2018 to October 2020.
Titu Ambani (2022)
Goyal moved to cinema with Titu Ambani, a Hindi social drama released on 8 July 2022. He directed the film and wrote its story and screenplay; Mahendra Vijaydan Detha and Dinesh Kumar produced it under the Sabal Productions banner. Tushar Pandey played the title role of Titu, with Raghubir Yadav as Shukla Ji. The film also gave Deepika her Bollywood debut, in the role of Mosmi, as noted on Wikipedia.

Rohit Raj Goyal in Pati Patni Aur Panga 2 (2026)
Goyal and Deepika signed up for season two of the Colors couples reality show, titled Dhamaal With Pati Patni Aur Panga – Jodiyon Ka Reality Check, as The Times of India reported in September 2026. It is the first time the two have appeared on a reality show together. The paper contrasted her lively, expressive nature with his calmer temperament.
For Goyal, the bigger change is the side of the lens. “I have spent most of my career behind the camera, directing and creating stories, so stepping in front of the camera and participating in a reality show as a contestant is a completely new experience for me,” he said. “Deepika and I have spent more than a decade building a life together,” he added.
The season began on 10 October 2026, airing on Colors TV and JioHotstar every Saturday and Sunday at 9 PM, with Sonali Bendre and Munawar Faruqui as hosts, Daily Jagran reported. Personal Life
Goyal and Deepika met on the set of Diya Aur Baati Hum in 2011, when he was directing and she was making her debut. “He was my director and at that time I used to think that he is strict and rude!” she told the Deccan Chronicle. Goyal said they had a strictly professional equation at first, though he always rated her as an actor. He said the pair dated for two-and-a-half years without anyone on set knowing, and decided to go public and marry after a news channel’s van turned up outside her building.
Even while engaged, the two kept work and home apart. “When on the sets, I am Sandhya for him,” Deepika said in an April 2014 Deccan Chronicle interview. They married on 2 May 2014, the night after their engagement, IBTimes reported, and she later took the name Deepika Singh Goyal. Goyal said his family had long wanted him to settle down, and were thrilled that the bride was their favourite actress.
The couple became parents on 20 May 2017, when their son arrived at a hospital in Mumbai, reported India Today; The Times of India has named him Soham.
