Early Life and Education

Sireesha was born in 1996 in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to Bala Bhagavatula and Murty Satyanarayana. She grew up in a music-loving household with one sister, and began entering singing contests young, which brought her face to face with stars such as SP Balasubrahmanyam and Bappi Lahiri.

Music was not her first career. She studied engineering at the Maharaj Vijayaram Gajapathi Raj College of Engineering in Vizag, graduated as a gold medallist, and took a job at an IT firm before leaving it to sing full time.

Singing Career

Her move into film music came, she told Outlook, after she was voted out of a Tamil singing reality show and then landed a chance to sing in an A. R. Rahman film. That first playback song was “Maathare” from the film Bigil (2019). More Rahman work followed, including “Sye” from PS-I and “Yalo Yedu Sundara” from Cobra, and she has also sung in Hindi and Telugu. She has also spoken of being part of “Raja Sir’s” singing crew.

“Ghodey Pe Sawaar” and Qala

Her biggest hit is “Ghodey Pe Sawaar”, composed by Amit Trivedi for Anvitaa Dutt’s Qala. The song spread quickly on social media, though, as Outlook noted, many listeners credited only the composer and did not know whose voice they were hearing. Trivedi recorded it live, and Sireesha recalled that the crew stood and applauded when she finished. She called the film “a blessing” and thanked director Anvitaa Dutt, Trivedi and the lyricists.

  • “Maathare” (Bigil, 2019, A. R. Rahman), her playback debut
  • “Sye” (PS-I, A. R. Rahman)
  • “Yalo Yedu Sundara” (Cobra, A. R. Rahman)
