Early Life and Family
Manasi grew up in Nimta, in the Paikpara Bazar area close to Belghoria. Her father, Manab, owns an electronic goods shop that carries her name, Manasi Electronics. Her mother, Soma, told t2, The Telegraph’s entertainment site, that Manasi has been earning since she was 13 and that she deals with show organisers herself, since her daughter “does not touch money”.
Her mother enrolled her in music classes when she was three. Papia Samaddar taught her first, followed by Sourav Ghoshal and Acharya Jayanta Bose. She now studies at the Lalit Kala music school under Simanta Sarkar, and twice a month her father takes her to special classes in Kendua, two hours away. According to the Free Press Journal, she had settled on singing as a career by the 8th grade.
She went to Christ Church Girls’ School and then took a graduation in English, Pinkvilla reported. On the Indian Idol stage her parents recalled that she had taken on money responsibilities as a child and once promised them, “I will buy you many houses.”
Super Singer 3 and Early Stage Work
Manasi was on stage long before television found her; her first paid show, at 13, earned her Rs 500. Her first big TV break was Super Singer 3, the Star Jalsha singing contest, where she finished as first runner-up. t2 dates that run to 2021–22. After it she was offered a part in a TV serial. Her family said no. “My daughter says music is her Plan A. She has no Plan B,” Soma explained. Manasi says the Super Singer stage made her want to sing on national television, and that led her to Indian Idol.
Indian Idol 15: The Winning Run (2024–2025)
Indian Idol 15 premiered on 26 October 2024 with Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani and Badshah as judges and Aditya Narayan as host. It was a strongly Bengali season: t2 counted seven contestants from Bengal in the Top 16 and three among the finalists, Manasi, Subhajit Chakraborty and Priyanshu Datta.
In the theatre round she sang “Aa Zara Kareeb Se” and “Sheila Ki Jawani”. The second of those impressed Vishal so much that he offered her a live show on a Vishal–Sekhar night. Her own favourites from later weeks are “Yeh Dil Deewana” and “Ankh Maare”. For “Ankh Maare” she mixed in “Bin Tere Sanam” and added a thumri touch.
The two-night finale went out on 5 and 6 April 2025. Wikipedia’s season page lists Manasi as the winner, with Subhajit Chakraborty runner-up and Sneha Shankar third. The winner’s package was a ₹25 lakh cheque, a Suzuki Dzire from Maruti Suzuki and the trophy. Overcome, she called her family up on stage. According to ETV Bharat, she was only the second woman to win the Hindi Indian Idol, after Sourabhee Debbarma, and she planned to put the prize money into her music.
The day after the final was telecast she rode home in an open jeep, garlanded, at the head of a rally from Nimta Bazar that her mother had organised. Asked who else deserved a Top 6 place, she named Mayuri Saha, calling her a brilliant singer.
Playback Debut and Music After Indian Idol
Her film break came during the show. Composer Lalit Pandit offered her the title track of Mannu Kya Karegga, and she was called to record the very next day. Shaan had already laid down his part, and Manasi says she finished hers in under an hour. The song, “Mannu Tera Kya Hoga” (lyrics by Kumaar), also features Akanksha Sinha and Mellow D. The film, with music by Lalit Pandit, reached cinemas on 12 September 2025.
In May 2025 Eastern Eye reported that she, Anirudh Suswaram and Sneha Shankar were heading to the UK as “The Magnificent 3” on their first overseas tour; she had a Rotterdam trip lined up too.
In 2026 she turned to Bengali independent music. On 9 September 2026 she released “Thumuk”, a dance single aimed at Durga Puja, having shared its trailer in April. She told t2 she wanted it to be “playful, energetic and completely fun”. Having grown up on Bengali music while loving big pop and dance records, she wants her songs to bridge the two. Later that month Saregama Bengali put out the video of “Ramani”, a song she sang, with Subhashree Nayak on screen and Baba Yadav directing. Its lyrics celebrate a confident woman, and the video passed a million YouTube views.
