Manoj Tiwari is a Bhojpuri singer and actor who moved into politics and has represented North East Delhi in the Lok Sabha for the Bharatiya Janata Party since 2014, and TV audiences remember him from Bigg Boss 4 in 2010. In October 2026 he returned to reality television with his wife Surabhi Tiwari as one of the seven couples on Colors’ Pati Patni Aur Panga 2.

Early Life and Education

Manoj Kumar Tiwari was born on 1 February 1971 in the Kabir Chaura area of Varanasi, according to Wikipedia. His parents are Chandradev Tiwari and Lalita Devi, and he grew up as one of their six children. The family’s roots are in Atarwalia, a village in Bihar’s Kaimur district, which is why he is often described as a son of both Varanasi and Bihar.

He studied at Banaras Hindu University, where he completed a Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.). Sport was a serious interest: his official Lok Sabha member record notes that he captained the BHU cricket team, which won in the East Zone, and that he later led the Bhojpuri side in the Celebrity Cricket League (C.C.L.). The same record confirms his date of birth as 1 February 1971.

Career in Bhojpuri Music and Films

Before politics, Tiwari spent years as a singer and actor in Bhojpuri entertainment. His first film was Sasura Bada Paisawala (2003), in which he played Raja. It was followed by Daroga Babu I Love You and Bandhan Toote Na. By 2005, Wikipedia notes, the BBC was naming him and Ravi Kishan as the two biggest male stars of the Bhojpuri film market.

His singing also reached Hindi cinema. He sang “Jiya Ho Bihar Ke Lala” for the Hindi film Gangs of Wasseypur, and in 2024 he was the voice behind “Hind Ke Sitara” in the web series Panchayat. The Bigg Boss 4 house list on Wikipedia credited him with more than 50 films by 2010.

Television

Tiwari has spent a good part of his career on the small screen as a host. He presented the second season of Bharat Ki Shaan: Singing Star on DD National in 2012 and both seasons of Sur Sangram. In 2013 he took part in Life OK’s Welcome – Baazi Mehmaan Nawazi Ki, and in 2018 he hosted Nehle Pe Dehla.

Manoj Tiwari in Bigg Boss 4 (2010)

Bigg Boss 4 went on air on Colors TV on 3 October 2010, and it was the first season with Salman Khan as host. Tiwari moved in on Day 1, listed by Wikipedia as a Bhojpuri actor and politician. He stayed until Day 63, when he was evicted, which placed him ninth overall. Television actress Shweta Tiwari went on to win the season.

The show returned to the family in 2026, when his daughter Rhiti Tiwari entered Bigg Boss 20. Talking about her father’s season, Rhiti told IANS, as carried by The Hans India, that he was already famous, but Bigg Boss let viewers see the man behind the public image.

Political Career

Tiwari’s first election was the 2009 Lok Sabha poll, which he fought from Gorakhpur as a Samajwadi Party candidate; Yogi Adityanath won the seat. In 2014 he joined the BJP and was elected from North East Delhi, beating the Aam Aadmi Party candidate by 1,44,084 votes.

On 30 November 2016 he was named president of the Delhi BJP, taking over from Satish Upadhyay, as the Hindustan Times reported. He held the post until 2 June 2020.

He has kept the North East Delhi seat in two further elections. In 2019 he defeated former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit of the Congress by 3.63 lakh votes, according to News18. In 2024 he beat Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar by 1,38,778 votes, as listed by The Economic Times.

Manoj Tiwari’s Wife Surabhi Tiwari and Family

Manoj Tiwari is married to Surabhi Tiwari. His Lok Sabha record gives the date of the wedding as 26 April 2020 and lists three daughters.

The couple’s first child, a girl, arrived at the end of December 2020, and India TV reported the wishes that poured in. Their second daughter was born in December 2022. Announcing her birth, Tiwari wrote that “Saraswati has arrived” after Lakshmi, the Hindustan Times reported. His daughter Rhiti Tiwari was a Bigg Boss 20 contestant in 2026.

Manoj and Surabhi Tiwari in Pati Patni Aur Panga 2 (2026)

Manoj and Surabhi are one of the seven real-life couples on Pati Patni Aur Panga 2, which Colors announced as “Dhamaal with Pati Patni Aur Panga” Season 2. According to Daily Jagran, the show began on 10 October 2026 and airs on Colors TV and JioHotstar every Saturday and Sunday at 9 PM, hosted by Sonali Bendre and Munawar Faruqui.

The channel’s line-up puts the Tiwaris alongside Arjun Bijlani and Neha Swami Bijlani, Rahul Vaidya and Disha Parmar, Shabir Ahluwalia and Kanchi Kaul, Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya, Deepika Singh and Rohit Raj Goyal, and Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi.
