Karan Patel is an Indian television actor and host, best remembered as Raman Bhalla in Ekta Kapoor’s Yeh Hai Mohabbatein and as Mr Rishabh Bajaj in Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2. He finished as first runner-up on stunt show Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 in 2020, and in September 2026 he entered Virender Sehwag’s reality game Rise and Fall 2 as one of its first four announced contestants.

Early Life and Family

According to Wikipedia, Karan Patel was born in Kolkata on 23 November 1983 into a Gujarati family. His father is Rashesh Patel. Before acting took over, he trained at Shiamak Davar’s dance classes, a background that later showed on the dance reality shows he joined.

Career

Early Balaji years

Patel came up through Balaji Telefilms, doing several parts for the production house before he got a show of his own. His first screen role was Vigyat in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, and he also appeared in the original Kasautii Zindagii Kay and in Kasamh Se. News18 later pointed out that the actor who would play Mr Bajaj in the reboot had been in the first version too.

His first lead came with Star Plus’s Kasturi, where he played Robbie Sabarwal. In 2008 he tried hosting for the first time, anchoring a new show called Kaho Na Yaar Hai. On the big screen he had small parts as Naru in City of Gold (2010) and as Jamal, a bodyguard, in Shootout at Wadala (2013).

Raman Bhalla in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein (2013–2019)

The role that made him a household name arrived in 2013. Patel played Raman Bhalla opposite Divyanka Tripathi in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein until 2019, and the pairing won him a shelf of trophies: the Zee Gold Award for Best Actor (Popular) three years in a row, Best Romantic Actor at the 2015 Indian Television Academy Awards, and Best Actor in a Lead Role at the Indian Telly Awards. At the 2015 Indian Telly Awards, The Indian Express reported, Raman and Ishita also took Best Jodi.

In July 2019 he announced he was leaving the show to do Khatron Ke Khiladi, after six years with it. “The show will always remain close to my heart and I am thankful to Ekta Kapoor for giving me Raman Bhalla,” he told The Times of India.

Mr Bajaj in Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 (2020)

In June 2020 Patel took over the part of Mr Rishabh Bajaj in Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2, replacing Karan Singh Grover. Ronit Roy had first made the character famous. Speaking about the switch, Patel said, as quoted by the Hindustan Times, that it was “a matter of honour to take it ahead from where Ronit Roy and Karan Singh Grover left and add my nuances to it.”

Reality shows

Patel has spent a lot of his career on non-fiction television. He competed on Nach Baliye 3, and entered Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6 in 2013. His best result came on Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 10, shot in Bulgaria with Rohit Shetty as host. When the finale aired on 26 July 2020, Karishma Tanna took the title and Patel finished first runner-up, as recorded on Wikipedia.

In January 2026 he was the first contestant announced for the reality show The 50, The Times of India reported. The same report listed Raktanchal among his better-known work; in its second season (2022) he played ACP Himanshu Patnaik.

Karan Patel in Rise and Fall 2 (2026)

On 17 September 2026 India Today named Patel among the first four contestants of Rise and Fall 2, alongside Swara Bhasker, Priyanka Chahar Choudhary and Shehzad Poonawalla. Banijay Asia makes the show and Virender Sehwag presents it; 15 contestants moved in for the 26 September 2026 launch, and episodes go out on MX Player and Prime Video. “Rise & Fall Season 2 gives me the chance to enter a completely different arena as myself,” Patel said before the launch.

The game splits players into Rulers, who live in a penthouse, and Workers, who live in the basement. Esquire India listed Gautam Gulati in the same line-up. On the opening episode, recapped by Daily Jagran, Patel was drawn with Niharika Tiwari and Siwet Tomar. He held only ₹75,000 against their ₹4 lakh and ₹3.5 lakh, but he and Siwet pooled their money and moved up to the penthouse, leaving Niharika in the basement.

His first stint was short. In early October 2026 the Free Press Journal and Daily Jagran reported that he had left the show, one of several exits in its first two weeks. Neither Patel nor the makers had officially confirmed the reason at the time.

He did not stay away for good. Patel was back in the game later that month: in its recap of the episode streamed on 20 October 2026, Filmibeat wrote that he was taken to task over a promise he had made to Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, after he chose to save Jashwanth Bopanna instead. The same episode ended with Sara Gurpal and Kajal Raghwani being eliminated, while Patel stayed in the competition.

Personal Life

Patel married actress Ankita Bhargava on 3 May 2015 in a private ceremony in Mumbai, Filmibeat reported. Ankita is the daughter of actor Abhay Bhargava, who played Patel’s on-screen father-in-law in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. Several of his co-stars from the show, including Divyanka Tripathi and Anita Hassanandani, attended the wedding.

The couple’s daughter was born on 14 December 2019. They shared her first picture on Christmas that year, according to Filmibeat.
