Early Life and Career

Jim Sarbh is born to the Parsis. His father is an ex-master mariner, and also the Regional Director of P&O Ports South and Middle East Asia. His mother is a retired physiotherapist. When he was 3 years old, his family moved to Australia. But his parents returned to Mumbai after a few years. Following that, Jim worked with Alliance Theatre as an intern. He was featured in several popular plays. He appeared in Ismail Khalidi’s Tennis in Nablus, The Breakup, and Ice Glen. He won supporting roles for the theatre. When he returned to Mumbai, he started acting in theatre productions. He gained the limelight after playing as a Happy Loman in Alyque Padamsee’s 2013 revival of Death of a Salesman. He then acted in various popular plays including, What’s Done is Done, The Glass Menagerie, Living Room, and The Merchant of Venice. Furthermore, he was featured in Forbes India’s 30 in 2015 for the efforts he made to the theatre industry.

Jim Sarbh made headlines after he portrayed the role of the terrorist in Ram Madhvani’s biographical drama Neerja. The film starred Sonam Kapoor in a lead role. He then featured in the thriller A Death in the Gunj and Raabta. He chooses different scripts and portrays unique roles. Not many of his fans know that Jim Sarbh has also acted in short films like Mama’s Boy and Like Summer Rain. He was also featured in Natasha Mendonca’s directorial Ajeeb Ashiq. The film focuses on human sexuality and gender identity. This film was screen at various film festivals in Europe. Jim then appeared in SLB’s directorial Padmaavat that featured Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, and Deepika Padukone in lead roles.

For Neerja, Jim won International Indian Film Academy Awards for Best Actor in Negative Role. He also won Zee Cine Awards for Best Male Debutant in 2017 for Neerja. For Padmaavat, he was nominated for Filmfare Award for the best actor in supporting role but received the Asiavision Award for the best actor in a negative role. Jim Sarbh has several films lined up for 2020.

Personal Life

Jim was in a relationship with B-town actress Kalki Koechlin. Sadly, the couple broke up. The two met on the sets of the Living Room and fall in love with each other. The two also shared their pictures on social media and became the topic of the town. However, their relationship came to an end in 2017.
