Early Life and Education
Ashish grew up in Pune and still calls the city home. Reports from his Indian Idol days describe him as a trained classical singer, and that grounding shaped the soft, melodic style that won him fans on the show.
Profile sites say he studied for a BBA in Computer Application at Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce and then took an MBA at MIT School of Business in Pune. A reliable outlet has not confirmed his exact date of birth, so this page does not list an age.
Music Before Indian Idol
According to the profile site StarsUnfolded, his first brush with television came as a child in 2008, when he entered Zee Marathi’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Marathi L’il Champs but left early in the contest. In 2015 he started a band called Raagalogik with friends.
He also runs a YouTube channel for songs he writes and sings himself. The same profile says his track “Pehra”, posted on 8 February 2019, took off almost overnight and brought him a wider online audience before he auditioned for Indian Idol.
Indian Idol 12 Journey
Season 12 began airing on 28 November 2020 (Sony TV) and wrapped up with a noon-to-midnight grand finale on 15 August 2021. Ashish stayed in the race deep into the season and became one of the final seven singers.
Pune gave him a hero’s reception on 30 June 2021, when he came home for a day ahead of the final round. At a small function at Treasure Park Society in the Aranyaweshwar area, where he lives, he was garlanded and Mayor Murlidhar Mohol placed a traditional Puneri Pagadi on his head. The mayor said Covid rules kept the event small, and promised a celebration at Shaniwar Wada if Ashish took the title.
That title did not come. Ashish was voted out in July 2021 and ended in 7th place. Many viewers felt he deserved to go further and criticised the decision, but Ashish answered gracefully, saying the singers still in the competition were talented too. Lyricist Manoj Muntashir, who sat on the judges’ panel for a few episodes while Vishal Dadlani and Neha Kakkar were away, told ETimes TV he was sad about the exit and had seen Ashish as a Top 3 contender. Pawandeep Rajan went on to win the season, with Arunita Kanjilal as first runner-up.
Composer Partnership With Pawandeep Rajan
The friendship Ashish built with the eventual winner turned into work. He and Pawandeep Rajan set up a formal composing team under the name “Pawandeep And Ashish Music Director Duo”.
One of their early releases was Manzoor Dil, the first single Pawandeep and Arunita Kanjilal recorded together, whose teaser came out on 19 October 2021. FilmiBeat reported that Pawandeep sang on the track and created its music along with Ashish, with words by lyricist Arafat Mehmood.

Personal Life: Wife Swanandi Tikekar
In a March 2022 chat, Ashish laughed off online claims that he was married, saying he was single and that his last break-up had come shortly before Indian Idol 12.
That changed the following year. He got engaged to Marathi actress Swanandi Tikekar on Sunday, 23 July 2023, at a ceremony attended by close friends and family, and the pair posted pictures from the day on Instagram. Swanandi is best known for playing Meenal Shewale in Zee Marathi’s Dil Dosti Duniyadari and Mukta in Dil Dosti Dobara. She is the daughter of Uday Tikekar and Arati Ankalikar Tikekar, a classical vocalist and playback singer, so Ashish married into a musical family.
The couple wed on 25 December 2023. The Marathi daily Sakal reported the wedding that day, noting that photos from their haldi, sangeet and mehendi had already drawn plenty of attention online.
He has stayed close to his Indian Idol 12 batch, too. In April 2022 he was among the season’s contestants, along with Nachiket Lele, Nihal Tauro, Sawai Bhatt and Mohd Danish, who attended Sayli Kamble’s wedding.
Indian Idol 17: Legends Return
Sony’s seventeenth season, titled Indian Idol Legends Return, is built around familiar voices from past seasons, who compete two at a time instead of solo. Himesh Reshammiya is the judge and Aditya Narayan hosts. Its first episode went out at 8 PM on 17 October 2026, a Saturday, on Sony Entertainment Television. Episodes air each weekend, Saturday and Sunday, and also stream on Sony LIV.
Ashish’s partner is Sayli Kamble, the second runner-up of Season 12 and a friend from his own season. For two singers who left the Season 12 stage in different places, the pairing offers a second shot at the trophy as a team. The full line-up of pairs is on our Indian Idol 17 contestants list.
