Her father Late K D Chandran used to work at USIS and was also a former actor. Although, Sudha Chandran was born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in one of her interview she told that her family originates from Vayaloor, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu.
Education of Sudha Chandran
Sudha Chandran was a good student; she scored 80% in her 10th exam and stood first in her school. But due to her focus and love for dancing she pursued arts, instead of taking science. She completed her M.A in Economics from Mithibai College, Mumbai.
Sudha used to love dancing so much that she started training at an early age of 3 and half years.
Strange Turn of Life
Chandran was at the peak of her life as she was doing hundreds of stage shows and performed at several events when the change of tide happened in her life. It was the year of 1981, month June; she met with an accident while traveling from Trichy by bus. She was comparatively less injured with few cuts and bruises.
But due to the huge number of patients, her wound in the right ankle was wrapped without any kind of treatment and dressing. This caused gangrene in her foot and to avoid it to spread it in all over the body, the doctors decided to amputate her right foot.
It was like the end of her dream of dancing as she used to love dancing more than her life. But like a real fighter, she didn’t lose hope. After three years of treatment, Chandran was back on stage dancing with the help of prosthetic Jaipur Foot. She became a star and one of the best Bharatanatyam dancers of all time.

Career
Along with a great career in dance, Sudha also had an attractive career in the film and television industry. Her debut movie was a Telugu film “Mayuri” in 1984 which was based on her real life incident. She won National Film Award for this movie. This movie was also dubbed in Tamil and Malayalam and later was remade in Hindi in the year of 1986.
Sudha became a regular face in numerous films and TV serials. Who can forget the powerful and evil role of “Ramola Sikand” in “Kaahin Kissi Roz”? Which was carried by Sudha with ease.
